Favourite Flavour

Description

An angel and a demon went out for sweets one day.
Said the demon to the angel: "Really, I must say,
"It seems a meeting such as this, the Lord would deem a crime."
Said the angel to the demon:  "For all things, He makes time."
"But if," the demon said, bemused, "I should lead you astray,
"Does that not work against His plan, and stand within His way?"
The angel stepped into a shop, and bought a double scoop.
"All things serve His plan," he smiled; "Even when we stoop."
The demon piled a sundae high, and pondered with a nod.
"I must be truly lost," said she, "for I find that truly odd,
"For what good comes of angel's fall, or man or woman's sin?"
"The Lord works in mysterious ways," he answered with a grin.
"You speak of scripture," sighed the fiend, "as if it were the truth,
"But the world is larger than seventy-three books - and richer too, forsooth."
"I only speak the words of men," the angel then deferred,
"For they, too, live in that same world - the land that you preferred."
Said the angel: "If you wish for other metaphors,
"We'll talk, instead, of tasty treats - this pleasure of mine and yours."
The demon laughed.  "Do you find wisdom in a lump of cream?"
The angel winked.  "As you find bliss in taste, and comfort and dream;
"For it is wise to take one's ease, when toil is at an end,
"And share the joys that can be found in discourse with a friend."
"Friend or fiend?" the demon japed, "For am I thus to you?"
The angel shrugged her wings and smiled.  "I leave that up to you."
They walked awhile in thoughtful ease, and settled in the grass.
They lapped their cooling, toothsome snacks and let the moments pass.
Until, at last, the succubus met the angel's sparkling eyes,
And saw in them familiar fires - but not those flames despised;
Not the flames of down below, where unclean spirits bake,
But warming fires within the heart - of which she'd oft partake.
For though a demon's place is cold, a human's heart burns bright,
And pushes back the frigid, stark and merciless dark of night.
Such things she'd stolen in the past, and in shame, she looked away.
For to touch a thing so sacred now…  the Father would make her pay.
The angel did not speak of this; perhaps he did not see,
But watched as the succubus tucked into her chilled patisserie.
The angel smiled a smile of love, for those who need it most
Are the unloved ones who've fallen farthest from the Heavenly host.
He knew that truthful friendship the bleakest hearts can mend,
And wondered if, perhaps this lost one needed but a friend.
The angel watched as the demon sampled her sundae piled high,
And decided, there, to help this soul beneath God's cheerful sky.
"You have so many flavours there," the angel spoke at last,
"How do you choose which one to first take in for your repast?"
"I like them all," the succubus gave companionable reply,
"For everything there is a season," she added, looking wry,
"And how does an angel make his choice of what he next will do?"
Said the angel, moving close:  "My favourite flavour is you."

This image was actually intended for the "Angels and Demons Revisited" contest at :All-Mature-Content: .  However, about three-quarters of the way through, I realized that my concept didn't actually have anything that dA defines as "mature content."  Oopsie!  ^^;  I guess that shows how much attention I actually pay to nudity vs. erotica in art…
I didn't have time to start a new piece from scratch for the contest, so I was unable to enter - but I liked the pic enough to finish it nonetheless.  I hope you enjoy it as well.
